Can a felon be around a gun?

hi im 18 and one of my parents got a felony charge when they were 24 so i go skeet shooting and i know that i cant have a gun in the house around her but can i have a shotgun in my car when im transporting it ...like can i have the shotgun in the car clearly visible bt just not in the house
