Law students/police officers: would the police go off of a tip of someone driving with a suspended license?

If someone reported you driving with a suspended license and told the police where you were and what you were driving, would the police go and look for you and would you be arrested? He is a convicted felon of fraud, and also has drug and dui charges. He is currently on probation and says he has not paid any money on it. If violated he will have to serve 5 years in prison. Would driving with a suspended license be considered a probation violation? would the police follow up on a tip like this and go look for him? I am studying criminal justice and he assumed that i would know the answer.
