Question about making a new yahoo email to forward my old email to...?

My ipod touch was stolen at school the other day and ALL my emails go to it (and I don't want the thief reading my personal life) ... so I want to create a new email but still get the emails I receive now (so I want to forward my old email to my new one).... but I was wondering IF I DELETE THE OLD EMAIL WILL THE EMAILS STILL FORWARD TO THE NEW ONE?
